William Nutt II was granted a land patent by George II, King of England on April 5th, 1753 in Anson County, North Carolina. The area in which they setteled was along the Waxhaw and Twelve Mile Creek in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
The Nutts, like many on the Carolina frontier, were generally people who prospered due to the trade that developed between the coast at Charleston and the Cape Fear reigon. William Nutt II moved to Craven County, South Carolina in 1774. HIstory records Tory activity was extremly heavy in the area the Nutts called home. There is mention in South Carolina records that show he provided forage and provisions forthe Continental and Milita wars in 1781.
