
William Nutt III was living in Kershaw County, South Carolina by 1794 when he acquired 590 acres in Lancaster County, South Carolina for 100 Pounds Sterling. This land is close to Pleasant Hill Community and is located at the intersection of Rocky River and Camden Roads. im and his wife, Mary McCowan Nutt, had moved to Chester County, South Carolina by 1800. The family moved back and forth in these countie until about 1807 when they were in Laurens County, South Carolina, where they were making preperations to move to the western country like so many of their relatives and friends of the day. The 1830 census of Walker County, Alabama records that an elderly William and Mary were living there with their four youngest children. William died and is buried in Alabama. Most of his children migrated to central and southern Arkansas.
While traveling from South Carolina to Alabama, the family had lived for a time in Tennessee. It is here that Walter Carruth Nutt was born, on July 14, 1810. Walter is the 7th child of William Nutt III and Mary. The 1850 Census shows Walter living in Denton County Texas, near Spear Mills. He married Medora Boston. They eventually returned to South Arkansas.
